The continuing development of multimedia devices and software motivates a growing interest for using 3D contents. Most often, 3D data are represented as polygonal meshes, whose storage (including topology, geometry and attributes) requires a large amount of memory. This project, carried out in close collaboration with the SNHC (Synthetic and Natural Hybrid Coding) Group of MPEG-4, aims at elaborating 3D mesh compression techniques for efficient transmission on wide area networks. |
